Labels:text | screenshot OCR: Global Neburg Djibouti's Lake Assal is not for recreation! Lake Assal is a salt lake in a very inhospitable area. Like Death Valley in the USA, the region around Lake Assal is well below sea level and is amazingly hot - any rain evaporates very quickly, producing large salt pans. Although Death Valley is the lowest place in the New World at 282 feet below sea level, the Danakil desert of East Africa easily beats this record - much of it is 400 feet below sea level.
